I’m Alex. I spend most of my working days thinking about how to make scientific data available over the Web. This requires a lot of programming, a fair amount of user interface design, and a heaping dose of diplomacy.

I’m originally from Kansas, but now live in Boulder, Colorado, by way of Boston, the South Pacific, California, Maryland, and New Jersey. I studied astronomy at Wellesley and Semitic languages at Johns Hopkins. This means I can read things like Moabite, which is completely irrelevant to my day job, but makes for good party conversation.

Though I work at LASP, which is a pretty cool place, nothing here is in any way officially sanctioned, nor do most of my colleagues even know of this blog’s existence.

The photo in the header is of the Musée National du Moyen Age.
